Gee - where should I start. On Jan. 23rd my mom
had knee surgery. It all went well, but sometime
during the night she had a stroke. My husband's
mom died due to a stroke so we knew the signs
and how important it was to get her help as soon
as possible! She stayed at the hospital for 5 days
and then she was sent to a stroke rehab center
about an hour from home. At first, I came home
at night and went right back in the morning. But
I hate getting up early and she did not do very
well in the evenings / nights. Being alone was not
good for her at this point. She was not allowed out
of bed on her own due to not having feelings in left
side (ear to toe) - but her walking skills were not
really affected! So I decided upon her request to
stay 24/7.
Anyway - her left arm and hand seems to be the
biggest problem. While at the center she had daily
classes to attend and they kept her very busy and
she progressed fast.
So fast that she was sent home early. But first this
place gives patients a one night go home pass. That
way people can see what the problems are at home
so they can work on them at the center, and so things
can be fixed at home.
Now she has been home since Feb. 13th and and is
doing FANTASTIC! Her only problem is her left
hand and the fact that she cannot feel anything
from ear to toe. She could hurt herself and not
know it and that scares the hell out of me.
I spend a good part of my days with her. She is
such an inspiration!
